Fire in Thomas Sharpe’s chimney fire burns down his house and that of his neighbor.

(OS-3/16) The fire prompts enactment of the first zoning ordinance in the British Colonies. Deputy Gov. Thomas Dudley subsequently issues an order that, “No man shall build his chimney with wood, nor cover his house with thatch.”
